MADE IN CANADA?

A hot topic in the news is products made in China. The concerns over toys having lead in the materials exposes the quality control deficiencies which contribute to the lower manufacturing costs that can be realized when products are made in some developing countries. The efforts of manufacturers to cut production costs with less expensive labour can open the door to production practices that have been squelched in Western culture because they are detrimental to the good of society as a whole.

Garments manufactured in Canada and Europe cost more to produce and are therefore more expensive to purchase. However, you will find that they are constructed with care, made with the best fabrics and will withstand more than one season of wear.

In our consumer oriented society the return to quality over quantity must prevail if we are going to see an end to the corner-cutting ‘lowest price wins’ production of goods. Let’s not destroy our global neighbours by enslaving them through our need to consume. Instead let’s help them through conscientious consumer choices that benefit everyone!
